Martin Mendez was born the 6th of April 1978 in Montevideo, Uruguay.
He started playing around the age of 12. He get his first bass and basic lessons from his father who used to play bass as well. Martin started playing in bands, mostly of them in the styles of rock and metal.
At the age of 17 he decide to leave his country and family to search for a different music scene in Sweden.
One year later he went to an audition for Opeth. Martin has been playing with Opeth since 1997 and his first record with the band was “Still Life”.
Since Martin joined Opeth they have recorded and released 7 releases including a live DVD.
They have gained reputation around the globe and have really worked them selves up in the top of progressive metal.
